Aizhai Highway

Aizhai Highway, a section of Hunan-Sichuan Highway that traverses Xiangxi, was built in early 1935 and opened to traffic in September 1936. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Hunan-Sichuan Highway was the only passage to the rear of SW China. Its steepness is often beyond people's imagination. With 13 sharp curves and 26 almost parallel road surfaces, its dangerous terrain and ingenious design rank top among China’s highways.

Tianwen Viewing Platform

In the Yuquanxi Canyon of Dehang Grand Canyon, the Tianwen Viewing Platform is isolated from all of the surrounding mountains. To get to the platform, you have to go through a rugged mountain road on foot. There is no cable car or winding road. According to legend, this is the place where the great poet Qu Yuan asked the heaven with grief and wrote the well-known poem Tian Wen during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). Hence the platform is named because of that.
